CHERY Tiggo is raring to rediscover its winning ways in the coming PVL Reinforced Conference after failing to live up to expectations in the last two conferences.

Drastically overhauling their line-up, the Crossovers parted ways with seven spikers, including veteran middle blocker Maika Ortiz.

“In every spike, every set, every dig, you’ve been there, Crossovers,” the team said in a statement posted on social media. “Your Chery Tiggo Crossovers family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. Our memories together are forever cherished!

Also released from the squad were Joy Dacoron, Rachel Austero, Justine Dorog, Arriane Layug, Julia Angeles, and Elaine Kasilag.

“Mayroon kaming mga pinapalitan na players. We are rebuilding the team na sa tingin namin makakatulong para (umangat) sa championship,” Chery Tiggo coach Clarence Esteban said last Tuesday.

Retained by Chery Tiggo are Mylene Paat, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, EJ Laure, Shaya Adorador, Jasmine Nabor, May Luna, Buding Duremdes, Alina Bicar and Cza Carandang.

The Crossovers finished dead-last with a 1-5 record in the recent Invitational Conference.

Although Esteban did not disclose the names of their possible new players, he said some of the prospects are from the collegiate ranks.

“Actually, mayroon naman (na bagong players). Hindi naman kami basta-basta magtatanggal ng player na wala kaming pamalit kundi magiging mas malakas iyong team namin. Medyo challenging lang kasi parang most ng nakuha namin nasa collegiate pa.”

Esteban, who also coaches Mapua University in the NCAA, revealed Chery Tiggo is already in talks with its possible import in the Reinforced Conference kicking off in October.

Esteban also said the Lady Cardinals will see action in the upcoming Shakey’s Super League slated to start next month.

The Lady Cardinals, expected to be led by last season’s Second Best Middle Blocker Alyanna Ong, will face other teams from both the NCAA and UAAP in the SSL pre-season women’s volleyball tournament.

“Actually, nakakagulat nga itong liga na ito kasi biglang nagkaroon. Until now, parehas kaming UAAP, NCAA nasa strengthening and conditioning lahat ng players namin so mayroon kaming mga masyadong time, technical kasi pagdating sa paglalaro,” he said.

“Marami kaming gustong makita pero dahil nagkaroon kami ng parang pipilitin namin na ilabas agad iyong talent na gusto naming ipakita dito sa Shakey’s Super League.”
