FORTUNES changing in a heartbeat?
Robert Bolick’s camp is negotiating with NorthPort for the prolific gunner’s possible return to the Batang Pier and the PBA.
“We are currently in talks with Bolick’s camp,” NorthPort coach Bonnie Tan said last Tuesday during the pro league’s media day at the One Esplanade in Pasay. “We’re exploring the possibility of his return to our team and the PBA.”
The 6-foot-1 Bolick was released last week by Japan B. League’s Fukushima team after suiting up for just one game this season, scoring 10 points, grabbing five rebounds, and dishing out two assists in 18 minutes against Yamagata last Oct 7.
Bolick’s decision to leave the Land of the Rising Sun came on the heels of his wife Cassandra’s pregnancy.
The Firebonds understood the former San Beda University star’s wish.
“We would like to announce the termination of the contract with Robert Bolick. Bolick was the first player to be introduced in this season’s line-up, and the club held high expectations for him. I believe this sentiment was shared by all our supporters,” Fukushima team president Hajime Nishida said in a statement. “However, Bolick recently expressed his intention to leave the club, and despite numerous discussions, he remained resolute in his decision.
“In the end, we chose to honor his wishes. I would like to emphasize that the contract terms did not make it easy to terminate or transfer mid-season.”
Bolick signed up with the fledgling league’s second division side last May after his contract with the Mikee Romero-owned ball club expired at the end of the PBA’s 47th season.
The pact was reportedly a multi-million-peso deal that was two years guaranteed at close to P1 million and had a player’s option for a third season.
