Blue Jays complete sweep of Orioles

BO Bichette hit three home runs and drove in five runs to propel the visiting Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-4 victory in the second game of their doubleheader sweep of the Baltimore Orioles on Monday (Tuesday in Manila).

Bichette launched a three-run homer in the third inning and solo shots in both the sixth and seventh. The shortstop has 21 homers this year. In the ninth inning, he lined out to center field in his final at-bat.

Cavan Biggio also homered in the sixth inning as the Blue Jays stretched their winning streak to five games. The Orioles have lost three in a row.

Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios (10-5) gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits in six-plus innings. Keegan Akin (3-2) yielded two runs in 2 1/3 innings for Baltimore, which got solo homers from Rougned Odor and Adley Rutschman.

In other games, it was the Blue Jays 7, Orioles 3 (Game 1); Yankees 5, Twins 2; Astros 1, Rangers 1; Brewers 6, Rockies 4; Rays 4, Red Sox 3; Nationals 6, Cardinals 0; White Sox 3, Mariners 2; and Diamondbacks 5, Padres 0.

Blue Jays 7, Orioles 3 (Game 1)

Kevin Gausman pitched 6 2/3 strong innings to help visiting Toronto to a victory over Baltimore in the opener of a doubleheader.

Teoscar Hernandez hit his 20th home run of the season for the Blue Jays, who racked up 14 hits. Gausman (11-9) gave up two runs on seven hits without a walk. He struck out six.

Orioles starter Mike Baumann (1-3) lasted five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits in his first major league start since mid-June. Anthony Santander hit a pair of solo home runs for Baltimore.

Yankees 5, Twins 2

Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning, his major-league-leading 54th long ball on the season, and New York beat visiting Minnesota.

The Yankees won their fifth straight home game thanks to Judge, who accounted for three runs and homered in a third straight game for the ninth time in his career. New York was playing its first game since a 4-6 road trip.

Judge snapped a 2-2 tie when he sent a 3-1 slider from Trevor Megill (3-2) into the second deck in left. — Field Level Media
