COLLEGE of Saint Benilde humbled Arellano University yesterday 83-73 and bolstered its chances of grabbing a twice-to-beat incentive in the semifinals of the 98th NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Taft-based crew extended their winning streak to three and forged a tie for the lead with defending champion Letran at 13-4 mainly through forward Miggy Corteza who had 15 points and five rebounds and combo guard Robi Nayve who scored 17 markers.

Mark Sangco posted a double-double of 11 markers and 13 boards, Will Gozum had nine points along with 10 rebounds, while James Pasturan finished with nine points for the Blazers.

“It’s a big win for us. I would’ve liked to rest our players a bit more, manage their minutes, but Arellano really played well, I give them credit. They played like they had nothing to lose. We weren’t smart. We didn’t take care of the ball but a win’s a win so we’re just thankful and hopefully we can move forward for our next game,” CSB coach Charles Tiu said.
