WORLD GAMES-BOUND Jeffrey de Luna and Roberto Gomez hurdled their respective Polish rivals yesterday (Saturday in the US) to advance to the round-of-32 of the Kamui Las Vegas Men’s 10-Ball Open at the Rio All-Suite and Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
De Luna topped Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki 2-0 while Gomez took out Daniel Maciol 2-1 to remain the last two Filipinos standing in the tournament offering a top prize of $22,500 (around P1.3 million).
In the loser’s bracket, exiting were pool legend Francisco “Django” Bustamante, who lost to Sniegocki 1-2, and Mark Estolia, who fell 0-2 to Gerson Martinez Bozaof Peru in the competition backed by leading pool supplier Predator and sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association.
De Luna was to face Boza and Gomez was to meet American Laz Martinez, who advanced from the loser’s bracket with a 2-0 win over Taiwanese Hui Chan-Lu, today (Sunday in the US) for a spot in the round-of-16.
