REIGNING world 9-ball queen Rubilen Amit shut out China’s Shasha Liu 2-0 (4-2, 4-2) Monday Night to reach the round-of-16 of the Saigon Women’s 9-ball Open at the Military Zone 7 Indoor Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
The multi-titled Amit needed two hours and 15 minutes to eliminate Liu, a three-time world-9-ball champion, and earn a spot in the next phase of the competition offering a top prize of $22,500 (roughly P1.288 million) out of the total pot of $75,000 (P4.294 million).
But Amit’s compatriot, Chengdu World Games women’s 10-ball silver medalist Chezka Centeno, bowed out of contention after absorbing a 0-2 (3-4, 1-4) setback to Taiwanese Tsai Pei-chun in the loser’s bracket.
Another Filipina, Camille Buhat, stayed alive, scoring a 4-1, 3-4, 4-2 decision over Taiwanese Chiang Shui-ching in the loser’s bracket of the double round elimination tournament.
