FRESH from his triumph in the Medalla Light Puerto Rico Open, Carlo Biado sustained his winning ways and led Jeffrey de Luna and Johann Chua into the winners’ section of the World 8-ball Championship at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan yesterday.
Biado dumped Japan’s Yoshiro Kitatani 8-3, De Luna nipped Singapore’s Toh Han Lian 8-6, while Chua edged Estonia’s Denis Grabe 8-7 in the 128-player field in pursuit of the grand prize of $60,000 (around P3.43 million).
Biado, the 2021 World 9-ball champion, will next face Poland’s Wojciech Czewczyk, a two-time European junior pool champion, while De Luna and Chua will face each other in the next round, also a race-to-8 series scheduled today (Monday in the US).
The winners will advance to the last-32, which will be a race-to-10 series, also scheduled today.
