COMING through with another mesmerizing performance, Carlo Biado outplayed Japanese Naoyuki Oi 3-1 (4-1, 3-4, 4-2, 4-1) yesterday (Saturday night in the US) in the finals to capture the Predator WPA Men’s World 10-Ball Championship In Las Vegas, Nevada.

Showcasing the form that enabled him to clinch the World Games 9-ball title in 2017 and the US Open Pool crown in 2021, Biado didn’t allow Oi to go any further after dropping the second set and pocketed the top prize of $75,000 (around P4.2 million) at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino.

Although he did not win the break in the final set, the Pinoy cue star pounced on the miscue of the Japanese, cleaning up the rack, sinking the 10-ball on the left corner pocket and pumping his fists in joy, followed by a jig before sitting down in his corner, smiling from ear to ear.

Biado finished runner-up in the 2015 edition held in General Santos City, losing to Taiwanese Ko Pin-yi 9-11 when the competition was played under a different format.

He has also won the US Open 9-Ball title and the World 9-Ball crown.

He survived a tense quarterfinal battle with Pin-yi’s younger sibling, reigning US Pool champion Ko Ping-chung 3-2 (4-1, 4-0, 4-1, 3-4, 4-1), then came from behind to vanquish Russian-born American Fedor Gorst 4-1 (1-4, 4-3, 4-2, 4-2) to arrange a showdown for the title with Oi.

Oi, the 2019 Japan 10-ball Open king, only put up a semblance of a fight in the tight second set but was simply no match for his in-form Filipino rival in the succeeding sets.
