PHILIPPINE basketball has lost another well-loved figure.

Former PBA alternate governor and RFM team manager Elmer Yanga passed away last Wednesday night due to a lingering illness. He was 78.

Yanga was at the center of the Mighty Meaties’ four title triumphs during the ballclub’s 12-year stint in the pro league, starting in 1990 when it made its debut as an expansion team.

The PBA paid tribute to the former league official by sounding off the final buzzer just before the Philippine Cup game between TNT and Converge also last Wednesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former RFM team manager and alternate governor, Mr. Elmer Yanga,” the league said. “Requiescat in Pace, Sir Elmer.”
