Former two-time PBA finals MVP Mikey Williams is set to bring his shooting and playmaking savvy to SGA in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship set from Jan. 24 to Feb. 2.

Williams, 33, who hails from Los Angeles, California, touched down in the Philippines yesterday—nearly two years after guiding TNT to the Governors’ Cup title.

After a contract extension impasse, the Tropang Giga terminated Williams’ contract.

This move reunites Williams with Strong Group coach Charles Tiu.

The two previously found success with Mighty Sports, bagging the crown in the 2019 William Jones Cup and the 2020 Dubai Basketball Championship.

“I’m excited to be working with him again,” Tiu said. “I was quite close to him before. We won two championships together, and hopefully, we can win another one.”

Williams will bolster an already stacked roster that includes Rhenz Abando, Dave Ildefonso, Jason Brickman, Angelo Kouame, Andray Blatche, NCAA MVP Allen Liwag, Tony Ynot, and Justine Sanchez.

Adding firepower to the lineup are imports Demarcus Cousins, Malachi Richardson, and Terry Larrier.

Tiu’s squad fell short in last year’s edition of the Dubai tourney, losing to Al-Riyadi 74-77 on Ismail Abdelmoneim’s three-pointer at the buzzer.
