THERE is a good reason why Columbian is among the earliest to prepare for the coming PBA season.
With four newcomers in his roster, coach Johnedel Cardel wants the Dyip to develop that much-needed chemistry for them to compete well in the league’s 45th season that starts March 1.
“Maaga kaming nag-start, before the New Year pa. Inumpisahan sa workout, build up ng body,” related Cardel. “With the addition of rookies kailangan maging maganda chemistry this season. So far maganda naman ipinapakita sa practice.”
It is not just Roosevelt Adams and former Letran Knights Christian Balagasay and Bonbon Batiller, chosen during last month’s rookie draft, who will be donning the Columbian colors.
Making his return to the team formerly known as Kia and Mahindra is veteran Aldrech Ramos, who suited up for the Enforcer in 2015-16 before being traded to Star (now Magnolia).
The 31-year-old forward was acquired from the Hotshots middle of last month for Jackson Corpuz and Cardel expects the former Far Eastern U standout to impart his experience to his young teammates.
“At least mayroon kaming isa pang leader,” said Cardel. “I talked to him pagdating niya dito sa Columbian. I told him kailangan ko leadership niya and sana matulungan niya ako sa players.”
It is on Adams, the top draft pick overall, whom Cardel is pinning much hopes on.
“Matindi,” said Cardel of the 6-foot-5 Fil-Am sniper whose style of high-energy play on both ends of the court mirrors that of CJ Perez.
“Parang CJ na pinalaki,” added Cardel. “Kaya I’m so excited na makita silang sabay na maglaro sa actual game. I’m sure magiging malaking tulong si Adams sa amin.”
