SOTTO

That will be known this week, at least in practice, as the 7-foot-3 big man is expected to arrive in the country today to join the 24-man Gilas Pilipinas national team training pool for the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

Leading the pool are Fil-Am NBA player Jordan Clarkson, whom the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas said will land in Manila tomorrow, and Sotto.

PBA stars such as Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar, Scottie Thompson, and Arvin Tolentino, June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez of San Miguel Beer, Magnolia’s Ian Sangalang and Jio Jalalon, Chris Newsome, Allein Maliksi, and Raymond Almazan of Meralco, NLEX’s Kevin Alas and Calvin Oftana, and Jamie Malonzo and Robert Bolickof NorthPort, and free agent Roosevelt Adams are in the pool.

Brothers Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., Kevin Quiambao, Carl Tamayo, and Francis Lopez complete the pool.

Sotto, 20, went undrafted in the last NBA rookie draft last month in Brooklyn and will return for another stint with Adelaide in the National Basketball League of Australia.

Sotto was good for 7.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 0.8 bpg for the 36ers after a botched stint with Ignite in the NBA G League.

He also had workouts with the New York Knicks and the Sacramento Kings, among other NBA teams.

The new NBL season is set to begin on October 1.
