Topex, Quiambao eye dream finish for Archers

A PERFECT ending.

That’s what La Salle coach Topex Robinson and reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao have in mind when the Green Archers clash with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the finals of the 87th UAAP basketball tournament.

The 6-foot-7 Quiambao is set to be crowned with his second straight MVP award—something he deserves and a big boost to La Salle.

“It’s just a blessing for us to have him. He sets the standard together with our leaders Mike (Philips) and Josh (David),” Robinson said. “Again, he deserves it. It’s really something that he worked on.

“He didn’t take any shortcuts. He did it the way true MVPs should do it,” he added.

Game 1 of the race-to-3 title battle is set this Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The top seed and twice-to-beat Archers whipped the Adamson University Soaring Falcons 70-55 last Saturday in their Final Four tiff.

Also armed with a win-once incentive, UP did the same as the Maroons showed the door on the University of Santo Tomas with a 78-69 triumph in the Last Four.

Quiambao emerging with another MVP plum and guiding the Taft-based side to the Promised Land anew should be a dream ending.

“Iyon nga there’s still a lot of championships to play,” Robinson said. “Hopefully, it’s gonna be a good experience for us heading into the finals just to ride on what KQ will get as an MVP.”
