Tang keeps the faith

COLLEGE of St. Benilde coach TY Tang is not one to lose faith in his players, not even after another heartbreaking campaign in the last NCAA cage wars.

“We need more talented players for one, that’s gonna make life easier but more than that, to all the players that are watching, I believe in you guys. I have complete trust that we’re gonna make it this time around,” said Tang during the Coaches Unfiltered podcast.

“I believe it’s more of the camaraderie, more of the blending of the culture, the toughness physically and mentally being tough inside the court. That’s something really that we lack in,” he added.

The Blazers won their first five games but a six-game losing skid told heavily on their Final Four bid as they finished the season with a 9-9 card, good for fifth.

Tang, who will call the shots for CSB for the fourth straight year, said his charges need to show better poise in the homestretch of the season.

“Especially, coming off the last two seasons, I think we were just hanging in there but eventually the losses at the end of the season, I think it’s really more of that, not being able to collapse or not being able to think of what lies ahead because sometimes, we’re being too emotional when we win and when we lose,” related Tang.

“We can’t just put ourselves in a calm manner just to go with the flow and get there first and then afterwards, celebrate.”

The Blazers lost 6-foot-7 Cameroonian big man Clement Leutcheu, guard Yankie Haruna, forward Edward Dixon, and guard Carlo Young due to graduation.
