SLA Jr World tilt set for Cebu stop next year

SUCCESS deserves an encore.

Buoyed by the gains of the SinagLigaAsya Junior World Showcase Mindanao Cup earlier this month in Cagayan de Oro City, SLA chairman Rocky Chan was understandably elated no end—and excited for the tilt’s third edition set to take place in Cebu City and Cebu province next year.

“It was an overwhelming success and it was an amazing tournament we had in CdO not only because of the gamesthatshowedMindanao teams can compete globally if given the opportunity,” Chan said.“But also it’s the hospitality of the people of CdO which got the admiration of all the teams and the friendship built by the different teams especially the international teams.

“Umuwianglahatna may ngiti and no regrets. It showed the world that Mindanao is a place to visit especially Cagayan de Oro,” he added.

The grassroots meet that featured local squads from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with international teams adding spice, was propped up by presenters CdOMayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy,Brgy. Carmen captain Kikang “Kapkik” Uy, and Sen. Bong Go, with the full backing of the Department of Tourism Region 10 headed by its chief Ma. Elaine Unchuan, the Mindanao Cup was also co-presented by PAGCOR, and J Project, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, TapsiBoi, Santi’s Café, Star Balm, Hotel SOGO, and in cooperation with Powerhouse Studios, M.A.G Materials and Soil Testing Corporation, The VIP Hotel, Bluesky, Sunsport, broadcast partners PTV Sports and Cablelink, and powered by Converge.

Webley Future Ballers ruled the Under-13 division while Juggernaut Bereremcaptured the U15 crown. TumakboBaskeball (U17), J Project Clothing Boomers (U19), and United Legacy Ascend (U21) complete the titlists.

With Ray Alao as president, chief operating officer Leo Isaac, Commissioner Rodney Santos, and deputy commissioners John Ferriols and EJ Feihl, Chan is optimistic for another slam bang Junior World Showcase.

“We are excited for the SLA Junior World 2026 edition which will be hosted by Cebu City and Cebu province,” he said.
