NYGEL Gonzales lifted Mapua to its fourth straight win in the 98th NCAA juniors’ basketball tournament, thumping San Beda University 76-62 yesterday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.
Gonzales sizzled with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists in 29 minutes as Mapua rose to 4-0.
Sean Salvador and Nicolo Mulingtapang also delivered for the Red Robins with 11 and nine markers, respectively.
The Red Cubs slipped to a 2-2.
San Beda’s Christopher Hubilla’s all-around performance of 18 points, 11 boards, three dimes, a steal and a block went for naught, while John Lopez and Nicko Lorenzo’s combined for 22 markers.
In the second match, San Sebastian picked up its second victory with a 31-point rout of the Brigadiers 82-51.
Ernest Geronimo paced the Staglets with 12 points, while CJ Rodriguez and Mark Danag contributed nine markers apiece.
San Sebastian improved to 2-2, while the Brigadiers remained winless in four matches.
Lance Dungo paced EAC with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds while Mark Mariquit chipped in 11 markers.
