GUARD Dwight Ramos is convinced Gilas Pilipinas has just offered a peek of its potential in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers and Olympic qualifying tournament.
“I think we showed some hint of the future, showed how good we can be. Going forward, we’ll keep getting support from our Gilas fans,” Ramos said in an interview by the FIBA.
“By 2023, we will be ready, stadiums will be packed, and hopefully, we will play some good basketball,” he added.
The nationals, despite fielding an all-amateur line-up and relatively lacking experience in international play, proved untouchable in the Asia Cup qualifiers after posting an unbeaten 6-0 record to gain a berth in the Asia Cup in August in Indonesia.
Gilas gave mighty Serbia a huge scare but eventually fell to the world No. 5 squad 76-83 last July 1.
The Filipino dribblers absorbed a 67-94 loss to Dominican Republic the following day.
The 6-foot-5 Ramos said the team certainly learned neat lessons in the two tourneys that he added will toughen them up.
“We learned a lot from these two games. We are still very young,” Ramos said.
