FORMER pro Eliud Poligrates of Marinerong Pilipino is making a serious case for his comeback in the pro league. An MVP award in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup might just seal it.

The 6-foot Poligrates, who had stints with TNT, Air21, NLEX, and Kia in the PBA, leads the MVP with averages of 21 points on 30 percent shooting from beyond the arc, to go with 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.6 steals in eight games.

He also set the record for most points scored in D-League play history at 67 in the Skippers’s 141-97 victory over iWalk last Aug. 26.

Other contenders are Joshua Fontanilla of the Saints, who averaged of 12.4 points, 6.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals; and Centro Escolar University’s Rich Guinitaran, whose numbers of 15.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists enabled the rebuilding Scorpions to reach the semifinals, only to lose to BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare in three games in the semis.
