MGC-New Life Christian Academy kept its stranglehold of the PCYAA 12 juniors basketball crown, sweeping Jubilee Christian Academy in their championship duel at Uno High School.
The New Lifers showed why they are the defending champions, displaying immense poise after a 76-74 Game 1 overtime thriller last Wednesday and a 65-59 Game Two escape over the weekend.
Adam Keith Uy presided over the clincher with his 18 points built on two treys, on top of seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals in this tourney which is backed by Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.
But it wasn’t just him, with Adrian Steven Tan nabbing a double-double with his 15 points and 12 boards, and Trey William Chua nailing two pressure-packed free throws with nine seconds to play to seal the conquest and finish with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
It was a gutsy win for MGC-NLCA which survived a superb performance from PCYAA MVP Karl Louis Uy who fired 24 points on 3-of-6 shooting from deep, to go with four steals and three rebounds.
This also capped off a superb title retention bid for the side of coach John Sia, which finished the eliminations at second place with a 6-1 card with the New Lifers’ lone defeat coming at the hands of the Jubilee Warriors, 49-46, last Jan. 25 in this tilt which sponsored by TOP, Jiang Nan Hotpot, Tai Chi Liniment, BYD, Hxgon Motors, Duralite Sandals, Vital1, Infinite Sportswear, and Spalding.
But as they say, the revenge is always sweeter and MGC-NLCA made sure that there won’t be any hiccups, first taking down Uno High School, 82-77, in the semis before the aforementioned 2-0 series sweep in the finale to complete a double triumph after also winning the juniors volleyball crown this season.
Philippine Cultural College completed the podium after a 69-59 win over Uno in the battle for third behind Jarvis Tyler Mari’s 27 points and 14 rebound showing Wednesday last week.
Saint Jude Catholic School has also turned over the hosting for next season to St. Stephen’s High School.
