MGC-New Life Christian Academy begins its title retention bid with the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Season 12 juniors basketball tournament tipping off this Jan. 18.
The New Lifers, who claimed their second PCYAA crown, will be the heavy favorites for the tilt which opens at Don Domingo Yu Chu Memorial Gymnasium inside Uno High School especially after the experience they gained participating in the Next Generation Basketball League (NGBL).
Adrian Tan and Adam Uy spearheaded the John Sia-coached MGCNLCA as it competed with the top high school programs in the country in preparation for this year’s competition, which is co-presented by Jumbo Plastic, Vital Purified Drinking Water as official hydration partner, Infinite Sportswear as official outfitter, and Spalding as official game ball.
Eight other teams, however, are breathing down the neck of the New Lifers, all aiming to dislodge them from their throne in this tourney which also has Top.ph, Jiang Nan Hotpot, Tai Chi Liniment, BYD, Hxgon Motors, and Duralite Sandals as sponsors.
Leading the pack is runner-up St. Stephen’s High School with the Stephenians driven to redeem themselves after pushing the championship series to a decider.
Completing the field are hosts Saint Jude Catholic School, Uno High School, Philippine Cultural College, Grace Christian College, Jubilee Christian Academy, Pace Academy, and Hope Christian High School.
“We couldn’t be more excited for this upcoming PCYAA Season 12. We are upbeat on the level of competition we’re about to see and we promise to hold a season like no other,” said league president Sherwin Tiu of Saint Jude.
Aside from basketball, PCYAA will also stage events in volleyball, badminton, table tennis, swimming, and chess.
