NCR-SGAxLGR sweeps elims of Milcu tilt

MARVIC Mesina caught fire from downtown to steer an undermanned NCR-SGAxLGR to a 75-62 win over NCR-JHOOP in the Milcu Sports Got Skills Basketball U16 Talent ID Program yesterday at the Greenhills West Clubhouse, San Juan.

The 5-foot-9 cager buried four triples on the way to a 17-point outing alongside five assists, three rebounds, and two steals as NCR-SGAxLGR punched an outright quarterfinals ticket with a clean 3-0 card to lead Group C.

With the loss, NCR-JHOOP (2-1) will have to fight for its QF spot in a playoff game against Cebu.

SGAxLGR pulled away in the third after turning a 41-29 halftime lead to a massive 53-33 cushion thanks to a pivotal 12-4 run to open the penultimate frame.

A corner triple from Kiefer Panganiban then sent the wards of head coach Emmanuel Joshua Sevidal to a 66-40 lead with 47 seconds left in the third en route to a victory against a team that was also undefeated prior to the game.

LJ Pascual and Panganiban supplied the help with 14 and 11 points apiece with the former grabbing eight steals, four assists, and four rebounds.

Muntinlupa also kept its title bid alive after pulling off a lopsided 78-50 victory over the struggling Laguna, with the quartet of John Dave Mindanao, Max Romero, CJ Cordon, and Sam Esomchi leading the charge.

14-year-old Mindanao posted 16 points, four rebounds, and two steals while Romero chimed in with 14. Cordon and Esomchi both tallied 11 points to star in the one-sided affair.

In Group D, Cebu stunned the surging NCR-Safestep with a narrow 59-58 victory while Bacolod pulled off a 61-49 win against the winless Ilocos.
