REUNITING with a familiar partner?

An unimpeachable source told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday that TV5, which served as the home of the NCAA from 2010-2012, will likely become the league’s broadcast partner anew.

“Why TV5? Remember, naging broadcast partner na sila ng NCAA in the past,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

“Of the three networks, sila din (TV5) ang may capabilities because it’s not new to them and expertise talaga nila ang sports,” the source added.

The source, however, said the NCAA is giving GMA 7 and CNN Philippines equal chances in their bid to become the league’s new broadcast partner.

“But the NCAA is fair to the three networks,” added the source. “They will all have the chance to present to the ManCom and the ManCom will recommend to the Policy Board.”

Previously named Sports5/ESPN5, TV5’s sports arm, One Sports, is showing the PBA games since 2011 and the NBA matches since late-July.

CNN Philippines is testing the waters in broadcasting sports content, with the network doing the block time telecast of the NBA games in the early parts of the 2019-20 season after the broadcast rights shared by Solar Entertainment and ABS-CBN Sports expired.
