CHANGE is coming in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Apart from turning pro, the MPBL, now being run by Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas, is also set to implement several changes, according to league spokesperson Mark Zambrano.
“There will be changes but these changes will all be good for the league,” Zambrano said.
“Side-by-side, iyon po ang gagawin natin.”
For starters, the league founded by Sen. Manny Pacquiao is scrapping the height limit restriction for Fil-foreigners that will play in the league. If the cager holds a Philippine passport, he will be eligible to play.
Previously, Fil-foreigners above 6-foot-5 were not allowed to play in the league.
Restrictions on the number of homegrown players and “ex-pros” have also been removed.
The country’s regional men’s league is also in the process of turning professional and getting accreditation from the FIBA.
“There will also be meetings with our team managers, league officials, and the Games and Amusements Board regarding this matter,” Zambrano said.
Thirteen teams have already confirmed their participation for the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitational tournament.
The league is eyeing to hold the tilt from Dec.11 to 21 at either the Caloocan Sports Complex, the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo, or Sta. Rosa Sports Complex.
