THREE months after his contract with Converge expired last June, veteran guard Maverick Ahanmisi has found a new home in the PBA, a team that he will certainly boost.
The 6-foot-2 Fil-Nigerian is set to suit up for Ginebra on a reported three-year deal after Ahanmisi’s back-and-forth negotiations for a renewal with the FiberXers fell apart.
Ahanmisi, 32, averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals last season, helping Converge advance to the playoffs in all three conferences.
He was particularly impressive in the season-ending Governors’ Cup where he was good for 19.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals.
News of Ahanmisi’s move to the Kings surfaced last Sunday night in the pro league 48th season rookie Draft where the Dennis Anthony Uy-owned ballclub tabbed former La Salle standout Schonny Winston as its ninth pick overall.
The development was seen as the FiberXers’ answer to the shoes that would have to be filled in after the departure of Ahanmisi.
