MULTI-titled coach Joe Lipa, one of the acknowledged legends of Philippine basketball, has come up with his own book entitled “Coach Joe Lipa’s Basketball 101.”

“Hopefully, this will be among my legacies in Philippine basketball,” said the 79-year-old mentor to countless players and fellow coaches in the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex yesterday.
Lipa, who steered the Philippine team to the bronze medal in the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul, shares his “experiences and knowledge” on the sport closest to the hearts of the Filipinos.
“The necessary facets of coaching, including offense, defense, nutrition na palaging nakakalimutan, and physical conditioning,” said Lipa, who also guided the UP Maroons to the 1986 UAAP crown.
Lipa, a two-time SEA Games champion and currently a consultant with Terrafirma in the PBA, was joined in the public sports program backed by San Miguel Corp., Philippine Sports Commission, Milo, Philippine Olympic Committee, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. by his publisher and co-writer Peter Regalado Lopez.
“The next generation (of players and coaches) should see the game through coach Joe Lipa’s eyes — with every facet of the game,” said Regalado, a corporate communications expert.
“We also carry the vision that through this book basketball can be taught on the academic level. This is something we want to share to the next generation,” he added, referring to the 280-page book.
