FORMER PBA team owner Alberto “Bert” Lina has passed away yesterday. He was 76.

The cause of death of the chairman of the Lina Group of Companies (OneLGC), and former Bureau of Customs Commissioner, however, was not disclosed.

Lina’s firm joined Asia’s pioneering pro league in 2002 after acquiring the Tanduay franchise and carried the colors of FedEx.

As Air21, the squad reached the 2008 Fiesta Conference finals but lost to Ginebra in seven games.

Lina’s franchise changed name to Burger King from 2009 to 2010, reverted to Air21, before taking over the Barako Bull crew from 2011 to 2016.

Eventually, Barako Bull was sold to Phoenix in early 2016.
