VACCINATION as part of the players’ eligibility requirements?

The NCAA is mulling that move once it returns to some sort of normalcy and hold physical events anew, according to Management Committee member Peter Cayco of Arellano University.

“Actually, we are discussing, and we’re geared towards including vaccination in the eligibility of athletes,” Cayco said last Tuesday in the online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.

“We recognize the right of the students to choose if they do not want to be vaccinated, but we also have to consider those who want to be vaccinated,” he added.

Appearing with Cayco in the public sports program presented by San Miguel Corp., Go For Gold, Milo, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. were NCAA 96th season ManCom chair Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, of host Letran, who said the league is working on its inoculation information campaign to convince student-athletes to get inoculated.

“We have to respect their freedom kasi baka maging legal issue ito,” Calvo said.

“Kaya pinu-push namin iyong vaccination information campaign para iyong hesitancy ng mga players (will be lessened).”

The NCAA’s new season is set to kick off on June 13 with virtual events such as online chess and taekwondo (Poomsae and speed kicking).

Among the options the country’s oldest collegiate league considered was holding its season in a bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna

The plan did not push through due to the whopping P40 million estimated cost and without the nod from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
