FOR a change, Terrafirma finally got a bit of a welcome news.
According to coach Johnedel Cardel, Isaac Go has signed up with the Dyip and is set to see action in the PBA Governors Cup as early as tomorrow.
“Good news talaga,” Cardel enthused as he relayed the news to Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“Two years ang pinirmahan,” Cardel added, but refused to add more details.
The 6-foot-8 Go was picked first overall by Terrafirma (then Columbian) in the 2019 Special Draft for Gilas Pilipinas players, with the understanding the latter would only be free to join the teams which picked them if they are released from national duties.
Once the contracts of the batch, which included Rey Suerte, twin brothers Matt and Mike Nieto and Allyn Bulanadi, expired last Jan. 31 they were free to realize their PBA dream.
All of his batchmates have signed up with their respective PBA teams, with Go being the last to affix his signature on the dotted line.
Terrafirma is now hoping the wait is worth it since it lost big men Roosevelt Adams and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser to free agency when their contracts expired last Jan. 31 and refused the fresh deals offered them.
Go, a stretch center who has proven his mettle in games for Ateneo and Gilas, should give Terrafirma a big boost although it would take some time before his real impact for the team is known.
Cardel said Go would only start joining Terrafirma’s practices today and is sure to see limited action against Blackwater tomorrow.
“Baka sundutin ko lang kasi bukas pa lang siya mag-i-start maki-practice sa amin,” related Cardel.
“Bukas bibigyan lang namin siya ng mga plays na familiar na siya,” added Cardel, also noting the Dyip would have a week off before their next game against Alaska.
“Next Saturday pa ulit ang laro namin so may additional time para mas maging acclimatized siya sa amin,” said Cardel.
