WILL Gozum, the NCAA’s top player last season, is not one to fall into the traps of complacency especially since he is set to suit up for his final year with College of St. Benilde, out to lead the Blazers to the Promised Land.
To toughen up for the 99th season of the country’s oldest collegiate league, Gozum, the reigning MVP, will see action for Quezon in the new season of the MPBL.
“I want to learn how to play with the pros and how they handle in-game pressure,” Gozum said. “I also want to learn to become a better leader since I’m one of the seniors already in CSB.
“Pinayagan naman ako nila boss Frank (Lao) to join Quezon but I’ll finish my commitment with Pampanga Royce first,” he added.
The 6-foot-7 Gozum will see action with the Huskers after his stint with Pampanga Royce Hotel in the Pilipinas Super League, another pro league.
To continue playing in the NCAA, Gozum has acquired a special guest license from the Games and Amusements Board.
Gozum, 23, averaged 17.2 points on 53.1% shooting, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 blocks in the last cage wars.
CSB reached the Big Dance after 20 long years but lost to reigning three-time champion Letran in three grueling games.
Gozum said playing in the MPBL under coach Eric Gonzales will only do wonders for his career.
“For sure, I’ll learn a lot from coach Eric (Gonzales) and his staff,” he said. “Also, I believe my growth as a player will flourish here in Quezon.”
