WHAT started as a promising Gilas Pilipinas campaign in the King Abdullah Cup ended in disappointment.
The all-amateur Philippine five failed to find the mark anew and lost to Tunisia 68-80 last Sunday night in their battle for third at the Prince Hamzah Hall in Amman.
The nationals lost their last three matches for a 2-4 card overall and wound up fourth in the five-nation, six-squad tilt.
With naturalized player Ange Kouame sitting on the bench, big man Carl Tamayo came off the bench and paced Gilas with 14 points, on top of six rebounds, while SJ Belangel chipped in 12 markers and four assists.
Skipper Isaac Go and Dwight Ramos also had nine and seven, respectively as Gilas shot 7-of-24 from beyond the arc for a measly 29-percent.
Gilas went into the match reeling from a 74-84 setback to Jordan in their semifinal battle last Sunday.
