HANOI. — June Mar Fajardo scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Thursday, leading Gilas Pilipinas to its fourth straight win, an 88-60 decision over Vietnam in the 31st Southeast Asian Games basketball tourney at the Thanh Tri Gymnasium here.
The Vietnamese, cheered by full-house crowd, were in the game early on, even taking a 17-16 lead on a layup by Vicent Cilia, but failed to respond when the Filipinos stepped on the gas and broke the game wide open.
Gilas took an 84-53 lead with 2:46 left in the final quarter in dealing Vietnam its first loss in three games.
Kiefer Ravena, eyeing his sixth straight SEA Games crown, had 12 points, the same production of Lebron Lopez.
After opening its campaign with a shaky 76-73 win over Thailand, Gilas clobbered Cambodia 100-32 and Singapore.
Earlier, the Gilas women’s squad rolled to its third straight victory, whipping Vietnam 118-87 behind the 25 points of Khate Castillo and moving within two more wins of clinching the gold.
