THE Gilas Pilipinas women 3×3 and Under-23 teams should get stronger due to this partnership.
Strong Group Athletics is set to back the two national 3×3 cagebelle quartets, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced.
The collaboration was officially sealed last week, aiming to provide the women’s 3×3 sides the support they need to train and compete here and overseas this year.
“We’re happy for the support of Strong Group Athletics,” SBP executive director Erika Dy said. “They’ve been an ally in promoting and supporting women’s sports.
“We’re looking forward to providing our Filipina ballers the training and competition they need to reach their full potential,” the amiable sports executive added.
The Gilas Pilipinas women’s 3×3 recently had back-to-back podium finishes. It won the bronze with a squad composed of Mikka Cacho, Camille Clarin, Jhazmin Joson, and Hazelle Yam at the Manila Hustle 3×3 Season 3 in Manila.
Kaye Pingol took the cudgels from Yam in the team that also finished third in Singapore during the Jumpshot 3×3 Season 2 competitions.
“At Strong Group Athletics, we believe in the power of collaboration to elevate Philippine basketball,” SGA president Jacob Lao said. “Partnering with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is a step towards fostering growth at every level—developing young talent, supporting our national teams, and strengthening the foundation of the sport we love.
“Strong Group is fully committed to this cause, supporting the SBP in its mission, including helping women’s basketball reach greater heights with the ultimate goal of making it to the Olympics.”
The squads will stay busy in the coming months with the Women’s 3×3. They will see action in the Got Game 3×3 competitions in Manila later this month before heading back to Singapore for the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup.
Capping the year will be the Southeast Asian Games, where they will try to recapture the gold medal.
The U23 bets will try to prove their worth in the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League 2025 – U23 Asia-Pacific in May.
