THE PBA is leaving no stone unturned in its 50th season.
This after the pro league recently held a consultation meeting with all coaches on possible rule changes as it gears up for its golden anniversary.
Strategists and the league tackled the proposed changes in rulings in the new season set to kick off in October, including the coaches’ challenge and the review of goal tending/basket interference in the last two minutes of a game.
The PBA’s Atty. Ogie Narvasa, deputy commissioner Eric Castro, Joey Guanio and Junior Bengua showed up for the league during the gab.
Among the tacticians present were Yeng Guiao of Rain or Shine, Meralco’s Luigi Trillo, Leo Austria of San Miguel Beer, Converge’s Franco Atienza, and Blackwater’s Jeff Cariaso.
The other teams were represented by their respective assistant coaches—Olsen Racela (Ginebra), Yuri Escueta (TNT), Adonis Tierra and Boy Cruz (NLEX), Christien Dela Cruz (Phoenix), Rensy Bajar (Northport), Monch Gavieres (Magnolia), and Jun Villarin (Terrafirma).
Another meeting is slated with Commissioner Willie Marcial, with the hardworking pro league chief expected to discuss the matter with the league’s Competition Committee.
Over the weekend, the Fuel Masters tapped erstwhile deputy and former player Willie Wilson as their new coach in lieu of Jamie Jarin, who was named team consultant.
“Management believes that coach Willy will be a good fit for the team as it continues to pursue more success in Season 50,” the team said in a statement.
“His experience both as a PBA player and coach will be an instrumental tool as he steers the best out of the Fuel Masters in the coming season.”
These developments—along with the annual rookie Draft next month should only add excitement to a likely grandiose opening, only fitting for a monumental milestone.
