A 0-2 start in their Group B campaign in the PBA Governors’ Cup is not enough to make Phoenix coach Jamike Jarin push the panic button–at least for now.
The Fuel Masters’ locals are doing just fine, he said, but their import, Jayveous McKinnis, needs to raise his game
“We just want a little bit more from our import,” Jarin said. “As a team, we were playing better, especially the locals.
“But we need Jayveous to exert more effort and complement the locals,” he added.
Phoenix lost anew 95-100 to NLEX last Sunday night, its fightback from a 23-point hole just falling short.
The Fuel Masters dropped a similarly close 107-111 loss to the San Miguel Beermen Wednesday last week.
McKinnis could only muster 15 points although he grabbed 14 rebounds in the Road Warriors game, but his counterpart Myke Henry totaled 37 markers.
Among the locals stepping up were veteran playmaker RR Garica who showed the way for Phoenix with 18 points, three boards, and four assists against NLEX.
Jason Perkins, Javee Mocon, and Tyler Tio had 13, 12, and 10, respectively.
