IT’S the thought of having something to cheer about in these most unusual of times in humanity that keeps the fire burning for Chooks-to-Go in running and backing sports leagues.
“Seeing Filipinos happy amid this ongoing pandemic is our inspiration,” Chooks-to-Go sports and marketing director Mel Macasaquit told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“We had goosebumps the first time in two years we saw the crowd doing the traditional wave. It was fulfilling,” he added.
With Chooks-to-Go now running its operations, the MPBL, which also turned pro, staged an Invitational tournament under a closed-circuit format last month at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
The 13-day, FIBA-style tilt was the first to welcome fans back. Basilan-Jumbo Plastic Medical Depot bagged the title in a nail-biting duel with favorite Nueva Ecija that fittingly went to overtime capped by a Philip Manalang buzzer-beating three-pointer.
The amiable executive said they could not be more thankful.
“It wasn’t even our plan to be the first to reopen the SM Mall of Asia Arena, but we did. We are just grateful and honored,” Macasaquit said.
The company’s mission also goes beyond sports, according to Macasaquit.
