Eagles trounce Huskies

OSO Ighodaro scored 19 points and Olivier-Maxence Prosper added 17 as No. 25 Marquette handed sixth-ranked UConn its third loss in four games 82-76 on Wednesday night (Thursday in Manila) in Milwaukee.

Kam Jones added 15 points for Marquette (14-4, 6-1 Big East), which has won five straight since a 103-98 double-overtime loss at No. 19 Providence.

UConn (15-3, 4-3) was coming off a 69-60 victory over Creighton after back-to-back road losses to Xavier and Providence.

Freshman Donovan Clingan had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Huskies. Alex Karaban added 17 points and Adama Sanogo had 10.

In other games, it was Houston 83, South Florida 77; Alabama 84, Arkansas 69; Texas 79, TCU 75; Xavier 90, Creighton 87; Miami 88, Boston College 72; Texas A&M 82, Missouri 64; College of Charleston 71, UNC Wilmington 69; and Duke 77, Pitt 69.

Marcus Sasser poured in a career-high 31 points that included six 3-pointers as the Cougars did just enough in the second half to beat the visiting Bulls in an American Athletic Conference matchup.

The Cougars (17-1, 5-0 AAC) were up by just a point at halftime and trailed by five with 14:26 to play but rallied with a 10-0 run to go up 58-53. Jamal Shead added 20 points for the Cougars while Tramon Mark scored 13. — Field Level Media
