WITH its back pushed against the ropes, Apex Fuel-San Sebastian College finally got one over fancied Marinerong Pilipino that kept the Golden Stags’ title dreams.

Apex Fuel-San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya is banking on that big win to carry them to the Big Dance.

“Hopefully, they get the confidence na lahat pala kaya if we work together,” Macaraya said after the Stags trounced the Skippers 82-74 in Game 2 of their best-of-3 semifinals showdown three days ago.

“Knowing coach Yong, I know there will be a lot of adjustments. So, I hope we can rest and recover sa lahat ng nangyari,” he added.

Apex Fuel-San Sebastian battles Marinerong Pilipino in a knockout semis tiff today in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The match is set at 9 a.m. before EcoOil-La Salle tangles with Adalem Construction-St. Clare also in Game 3 at 11 o’clock.

The Recto-based cagers will pin their hopes on Ichie Altamirano and Romel Calahat in their bid to advance to the race-to-2 finals of the season-opening tourney.

The league has yet to announce the date and venue of Game 1 of the title series.Skippers tactician Yong Garcia wants nothing less from his team to prove their worth as one of the favorites.

“Kailangan naming kunin (title),” Garcia said. “Hindi naman naipapanalo iyong championship sa papel so kailangan naming patunayan iyong inaasahan ng mga tao sa amin.”

Juan Gomez de Liaño, Jollo Go, and Kemark Cariño will be counted upon by Marinerong Pilipino.

Like the Stags, the Saints stayed alive with a 72-64 triumph over the Green Archers last Sunday.

“Gusto namin laging manalo kaya kahit mahirap, gagawa at gagawa kami ng way,” Adalem Construction-St. Clare strategist Jiniño Manansala said.

The Saints will rely on NAASCU MVP Johnsherick Estrada, Joshua Fontanilla, and John Rojas.

“We can’t be complacent,” EcoOil-La Salle coach Derrick Pumaren said. “We have to respect St. Clare because they’re still a champion team.”

Kevin Quiambao, Michael Phillips, Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy, and Schonny Winston will carry the fight for the Archers.
