Converge parts ways with Teng

AFTER veteran guard Maverick Ahanmisi, Converge has opted to part ways with another star–Jeron Teng.

The FiberXers chose not to re-sign Teng after his contract expired last Aug. 31, but since he is part of the 2015 Draft class and just coming off his fifth season in the league, Teng is still not eligible for unrestricted free agency, with Converge still owning his rights.

The 6-foot-2 forward was good for 13.63 points, 4.25 rebounds and 3.63 assists per game in the last PBA on Tour.

Teng, 29, was selected fifth overall in 2017 by the defunct Alaska franchise after a stellar collegiate stint laced by two titles with La Salle in the UAAP.

He was one of the players absorbed by the FiberXers after the Dennis Anthony Uy-owned firm bought the Aces lock, stock, and barrel last year.

Teng was the second-leading scorer of Converge last season with 12.9 points per game, second behind Ahanmisi, who had linked up with Ginebra. He is now free to sign with any PBA team or bring his acts overseas.

Teng, along with skipper Kevin Racal, was one of the two holdovers in Converge who came from Alaska.

Ahanmisi, 32, averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals last season, helping Converge advance to the playoffs in all the three conferences.

FiberXers coach Aldin Ayo decided to tab former La Salle standout Schonny Winston as its ninth pick overall in last Sunday’s 48th season PBA rookie Draft.

The development was seen as Converge’s plan to make up for the departure of Ahanmisi.
