ARE there plans for Chooks-to-Go to join the PBA?
Forget it.
Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas said the company is focused on supporting teams and athletes representing the country and committed to 3×3 play.
“We’d rather support teams and athletes representing the country,” Mascariñas told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“Thankful kami na lagi nasa comments section ang brand namin kapag iyan (new PBA team) ang topic. Pero malabo talaga. We’re committed to 3×3,” he added.
Aside from the pro league Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3, the company is also bankrolling the Manila Chooks TM 3×3 squad and supporting a number of athletes such as boxing great and Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, 7-foot-3 center Kai Sotto, and Kobe Paras, to name a few.
The amiable executive and sports patron said the Philippines’ rise in world rankings in 3×3 and in popularity took a lot of hard work and financial muscle.
“Wala talaga, actually (plan to join the PBA). With 3×3, naging interested lang kami when the country needed ranking points to get to the OQT,” Mascariñas said.
“We were ranked 59th before we started our program. The country needed to be at least ranked 24th. In less than a year, we went up to No. 21. It involved a lot of hard work and of course, funding.”
