SHOWING no signs of rust, China turned back gritty Japan 66-57 yesterday in Group B action as the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers got going behind closed doors at the Angeles University Foundation Gym in Pampanga.

Showing up without former NBA player Yi Jianlian, China leaned on gunner Zhou Peng who had 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from deep, to go with two assists, while Shen Zijie chipped in 11 points and five boards.

It was China’s debut in the qualifiers after it opted not to send a team in the second window in November last year in Manama.
