CAN new La Salle coach Topex Robinson lead the Green Archers to the Promised Land anew?

La Salle will seek a second straight title when the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup gets going on April 27 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Four months after he was tapped to call the shots for the Archers, replacing Derrick Pumaren, Robinson, a former tactician for Phoenix in the PBA, gets his baptism of fire in the developmental league.

The Taft-based cagers headline an eight-team cast that includes reigning three-time NCAA champion Letran.

Also out to prove their worth are AMA Online Education, Centro Escolar University-Cafe France, Perpetual Help, St. Clare College, and new team Philippine Sports Performance Fitness Gym and San Beda University-Marinerong Pilipino.

Representatives of the eight teams attended the coaches’ meeting at the PBA Office in Libis last week.

The Skippers, led by Conference MVP Juan Gomez de Liaño, wound up as the bridesmaids after losing to La Salle in the Big Dance 1-2.

The eight squads will clash in single-round robin eliminations, with the top two teams gaining outright slots to the semifinals.

The third to sixth-ranked quintets will advance to the quarterfinals, with the third and fourth-seeded crews enjoying twice-to-beat advantages.

The finals will be a best-of-3 series.
