Third Conference: Known as the Milkmen, Alaska bagged its first PBA crown at the expense of Ginebra, with Jojo Lastimosa, Sean Chambers, and Bong Alvarez leading the squad.
Governors Cup: Alaska beat Swift in six games for its second crown.
Governors Cup: After losing to equally formidable Sunkist in the finals of the All-Filipino and Commissioner’s Cup, Alaska finally got one over the Orange Juicers in the season-ending tourney.
Grand Slam: In their best year in the league, the Milkmen annexed a rare triple-crown, beating Purefoods, Shell, and Ginebra, respectively, in each of the finals of that year. Johnny Abarrientos was named MVP, while Jojo Lastimosa and Bong Hawkins joined him in the Mythical Team. Poch Juinio emerged as the Most Improved Player of the season and Chambers was the runaway Best Import.
Governors Cup: Alaska failed to retain the All-Filipino and Commissioner’s Cup crowns from its Grand Slam year but managed to cop a fourth straight Govs Cup title, defeating Purefoods 4-1.
‘Near Second Grand Slam’: The Milkmen acquired high-flying Kenneth Duremdes a year ago and he proved to be the perfect replacement for Jeffrey Cariaso. Alaska beat San Miguel twice in the All-Filipino and Commissioner’s Cup finals. Abarrientos, Lastimosa, and Duremdes missed the rest of the season as members of coach Tim Cone’s Centennial Team that won the bronze in the Asian Games in Thailand.
All-Filipino Cup: Alaska lost Game 1 of its finals duel with Purefoods but swept the next four games to capture title No. 10.
Invitational: The Aces ruled the tourney against Coca-Cola 2-1 behind young guns Ali Peek, John Arigo, Mike Cortez, the first pick overall in the draft that year, and fellow rookie Brandon Cablay, who was hailed the finals MVP.
Fiesta Conference: With do-it-all import Rosselle Ellis and MVP Willie Miller leading the charge, Alaska beat Talk ‘N’ Text in a grueling finals tussle that went the 7-game distance.
Fiesta Conference: LA Tenorio and Cyrus Baguio combined with import Diamon Simpson as the Aces defeated San Miguel Beer 4-2 in the finals. Tenorio and Baguio were named co-finals MVPs in Cone’s final title run with the team before he joined the then B-Meg quintet (now Magnolia).
Commissioner’s Cup: With Luigi Trillo calling the shots, Alaska completed a 3-0 sweep of Ginebra in the finals behind finals MVP Sonny Thoss, Best Import Rob Dozier, Calvin Abueva, Jvee Casio, and Baguio.
