SAN Miguel Beer import Jordan Adams is fast proving to be what the doctor ordered for the Beermen.
“We really looked at Jordan as a guy that can spread out the floor and help June Mar (Fajardo) when he’s doubled,” SMB coach Jorge Gallent said of the former Memphis Grizzlies cager tabbed 22nd overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. “In his first game, I guess he just didn’t get used to the court.
“But after that, you can see the results. He was 6 of 10 tonight,” he added.
Gallent spoke after his wards ripped the Blackwater Bossing 128-108 last Sunday night for their second straight win in Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The 6-foot-5 Adams sizzled with 50 points spiked by six three-pointers, on top of 11 rebounds.
Adams’ exploits could not have come at a better time as SMB battled back from a Blackwater side which, despite playing without a reinforcement, held a 63-56 lead at the break.
“I just had to remind them that we weren’t playing San Miguel basketball,” Gallent said. “We were playing selfish basketball in the first half.
“We weren’t rotating the ball and were giving them easy shots, especially in the paint.”
CJ Perez added 14 markers and seven boards while Fajardo had 13 and 10 as the Beermen scored a big follow up to a 111-107 win over the Phoenix Fuel Masters Wednesday last week and rose to 2-0 in their group in a tie with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the NLEX Road Warriors.
Jericho Cruz, Kris Rosales, and Vic Manuel also had 12, 10, and 10 points, respectively, for SMB.
The Bossing, who handed original choice Rickly Ledo the pink slip before the match, came off an 87-104 drubbing at the hands of NLEX last Thursday and fell to 0-3.
Adams, 30, downplayed his big game, saying: “I think every night could be somebody else’s night. We had a good week of practice, and it just showed out there in the second half.
“We have a great team. There’s a lot of guys to worry about so I was able to find my shots within my shots. It makes the job easier for me. Everybody can score. Everybody can shoot in this team.”
Troy Rosario paced Blackwater with 25 points while Sedrick Barefield, James Kwekuteye, Jewel Ponferada, and Christian David combined for 48.
If and when Adams’ words prove to be true, this will spell big trouble to the rest of the field.
