The “Beast” is back.
The Commissioner’s Office yesterday announced the lifting of the indefinite suspension of Calvin Abueva, paving the way for the Phoenix Super LPG forward to start playing in his team’s games in the Philippine Cup bubble in Angeles City.
According to the announcement, Commissioner Willie Marcial, Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro and technical officer Mauro Bengua sat down with Phoenix team manager Paolo Bugia, coach Topex Robinson and Abueva on Saturday morning and discussed the guidelines on the lifting of Abueva’s suspension.
Abueva is mandated to actively participate in counseling programs.
Marcial also laid down the fines and penalties facing Abueva should the former Rookie of the Year commit on and off-court misdemeanors in the future.
He was suspended indefinitely in early June last year for a clothesline hit on TNT import Terrence Jones following a verbal altercation with then Blackwater player Rayray Parks’ girlfriend just a couple of days earlier.
Upon hearing of Marcial’s decision, Abueva apologized for his past misdeeds and thanked his family, his team, his PBA family and his fans for their continued support, especially while he was serving out his suspension.
Marcial said he hopes Abueva had learned his lessons and encouraged him to continuously persevere, change for the better and be the perfect role model who champions good manners and right conduct for everyone.
Abueva, who has been practicing with his teammates since September of last year and allowed to join the other Fuel Masters in the PBA bubble, could start seeing action today.
Fuel Masters interim coach Topex Robinson did not return messages or return calls for comment yesterday.
