PAGADIAN. – Basilan BRT stayed undefeated while dealing Globalport-MisOr its first loss via a 74-70 decision Wednesday in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Challenge at the Pagadian City Gymnasium here.
Down by eight, the Valientes went on an 8-3 surge, capped by Reil Cervantes’ triple, to cut the deficit to 67-70, with 49.5 seconds left.
But just when Cervantes was heating up from deep, he fouled out with 45.7 ticks remaining while Darwin Lunor made both shots from the line for Basilan before Ar Raouf Julkipli split his charities 73-67.
In the ensuing play, MisOr’s Dahrrel Caranguian drained a three-pointer to inch back within three anew 70-73 with 22 seconds to go but that was the closest the team got into.
In the other game, Zamboanga Sibugay finally won, outlasting Kapatagan in double overtime 89-83.
Buffalos’ gritty forward Richard Kwong opened the second extra period with back-to-back baskets to give his side a four-point lead 75-71.
Then the Anak Mindanao Warriors responded with a 15-5 run, capped by Michole Sorela’s triple and a layup, to take an 86-80 lead with 34.8 ticks left to seal the hard-earned win.
“Sinabihan ko lang sila sa dulo na lahat tayo gusto manalo. Kung sino ang unang bibitaw, siyang matatalo,” said Basilan head coach Ron Jalmanzar.
Newcomer Jorem Morada led the Peace Riders with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
