NEW Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Dickie Bachmann continued his familiarization tour of the PSC, its staff, facilities and athletes and coaches in both the national and national pool yesterday before capping the day with a get-together with his board and their Philippine Olympic Committee counterparts at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.
Bachmann toured the Philsports Complex in Pasig City where he inspected the PSC’s extension office and then talked with members of the national polo team beside the Philsports pool as well as some members of the national para team training at the Philsports oval.
The previous day, Bachmann met with Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Hidylin Diaz in his office before doing his rounds at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
After inspecting the other offices at the PSC administration building, the former pro player and La Salle varsity standout visited the national squash and soft tennis squads at their training venues.
He met the members of Kayod Pilipinas, the national squash team whose president is Bachmann’s older brother Robert, at the new national squash training center overlooking the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
He then strolled over to the RMSC Tennis center where he talked with the members of the soft tennis team and visited the PSC Sports Museum beside the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
He was delighted to find out that a picture of his late father, Kurt Bachmann, a national team standout and 1960 Rome Olympic Games veteran, was there. He also inspected the Rizal Memorial ballpark.
Before leaving home the other day, Bachmann said he and Commissioners Bong Coo and Walter Torres were invited by Philippine Olympic Committee President and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino for a late afternoon snack with other POC board members.
“It will be more of an informal, getting-to-know-you affair between Chairman Bachmann, his commissioners, POC president Bambol and the other POC board members,” said POC auditor and baseball chief Chito Loyzaga.
