CELEBRATING his 54th birthday while reporting for work, Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann yesterday aired a couple of wishes for the PSC as well as local sports.
“Among my foremost wishes is that we are able to fix our facilities or make them better for our athletes. That remains among my top priorities,” Bachmann said just a little over a year since taking over the helm of the government sports agency on Jan. 4, 2023.
“Of course, I also want to give our national athletes the services and support they deserve so that they can excel in international play,” added Bachmann, who stepped down as chief of operations of the country’s successful hosting of the FIBA World Cup last year to take charge of the PSC.
Bachmann also hoped for greater cooperation with the Philippine Olympic Committee in supporting the country’s athletes who will see action in the Paris Summer Games in July.
“We hope that our two organizations can work more closely together so that we will have another successful Philippine campaign in the Paris Olympics,” he said.
The Philippines will celebrate its centennial jubilee of participation in the French capital, the birthplace of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympic movement, since making its debut in the 1924 Paris Games.
