DESPITE rolling to four straight wins, counting stunning triumphs over defending champion San Miguel Beer and fancied TNT, Converge coach Aldin Ayo insisted his charges could only get better in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Hindi pa namin napag-i-isipan iyan. We’re still in the process of polishing our system. They (FiberXers) already have the idea of what to do, but I always tell them that knowing is not enough,” Ayo said.
“Even if you know the system, it’s about doing it, it’s about executing it, and being the best in doing it,” he added.
Ayo spoke after the FiberXers pulled off a 77-71 decision over Blackwater last Sunday.
Import Quincy Miller shone anew for Converge with game-highs of 22 points and 19 rebounds, while Alec Stockton provided a big boost with a career-best 15 markers he laced with eight boards.
Abu Tratter also had 12 and 10 for the Fiberxers, who scored a fitting follow-up to their 130-117 drubbing of the Tropang Giga last Oct. 28 and rose to 5-2.
The Bossing, coming off a 98-108 loss also to TNT last Oct. 22, tumbled to 3-5.
Ayo, who took over at the helm of the Dennis Uy-owned ballclub just three months ago, said Converge has yet to fully embrace his system.
“Wala pa kami doon sa sinasabi naming ‘state,’ which is iyong mastery (ng system),” Ayo said. “Long ways to go and we’ll just take it one game at a time.”
Ayo admitted the wear and tear of their duel with the Tropang Giga took its toll on the FiberXers, but they showed great resolve when it mattered most.
