WITH recovering do-it-all player Jack Animam expected to be back in harness, a deep pool of players to choose from and the all-out support of basketball bigwigs, national women’s coach Pat Aquino is keen on completing a three-peat in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games women’s basketball championships in Cambodia next year.
“Hindi puwedeng mawala. We we’re going for a three-peat and we have the full support of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio in our title-retention drive,” Aquino said of the goal of the Gilas Pilipinas women’s squad yesterday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association forum at the Philippine Sports Commission conference room.
“And for the first time, SBP is even thinking of tapping a naturalized player to boost the team,” added the bespectacled mentor, also the Gilas Pilipinas women’s program project director.
He said going for a golden grand slam in the SEA Games is one of the reasons why he is going to the US next week — to touch base with Fil-Am prospects that can reinforce the locals in their title-retention drive in Cambodia.
