WHY did she go away?
In a surprising turn of events, Jack Animam left her Serbian team Radnicki Kragujevac for the United States over the weekend, a move seemingly done to enable her to recover from an apparent left knee injury.
“Thanks to her for everything that she has done in her short time,” the team said in a statement. “She was one of the most important players in the senior team.”
As of yesterday, Animam and East West Private, the US-based management firm that handles the career of the 6-foot-5 center, are tightlipped on the reason for her departure.
Raring to prove her worth in Europe, Animam averaged 20.0 points and 14.3 rebounds in eight games in her three-month stay with Radnicki in the First Women’s Basketball League of Serbia.
She sat out the squad’s last two matches due to an apparent left knee injury.
Radnicki hinted the injury could likely be the main reason why Animam left.
“We wish her a speedy recovery,” the team said. “As Jack said in the end, ‘No goodbyes, but just see you.’”
Animam, 23, expressed her interest in the past to try her luck in the WNBA draft next year in her bid to become the first homegrown Filipina to be drafted in the world’s top women’s pro league.
With Animam leading the charge, Radnicki is sporting a 4-6 card.
